Every lens processed at K Optical is manufactured using digital surfacing technology. This provides you with superior RX accuracy and the highest quality lenses in the industry.
-
Lens Check In and RX VerificationYour job begins processing in the lab at the check in station. Here, the computed RX, lens blanks, frame material, sizing and shape data, and patient's measurements from your order are verified for processing. All customization starts here by our trained staff to produce the best lens quality.1
-
Lens BlockingAfter a protective tape is used to cover the front surface of the lens, a base curve matched block is selected. A computed blocking ring diameter is selected for the block attachment to the lens. Computer guided cameras are used to center and block the lenses. The tray is now ready to begin automation on our Flex Link track to continue to the generator.2
-
Lens GeneratingOur custom Satisloh generator provides our surfacing department with precision based process control, allowing lenses to be digitally cut within a hundredth of a diopter of accuracy. This level of accuracy also gives us the capability to offer a lenticularization option and expanded Rx ranges. The complex curves are refined with a natural diamond to a sub 3 micron surface and only require minimal polishing.3
-
Lens PolishingOur Duo-FLEX polishing system utilizes soft polishing tools to enhance the digitally created surface from the generator. This produces a superior lens surface without altering the complex digital curves.4
-
Laser EngravingDigital progressives, digital computer lenses, and digital single vision lenses are etched with fitting marks using a laser engraver.5
Lens Finishing

Milling technology utilizes digital technology to control five high speed spindles to provide superior bevels and polished edges.
-
Finishing Check In and BlockingSurfaced lenses are inspected to ANSI standards and checked for defects. Frame shapes are traced using our digital tracer and stored with the patient Rx in our Frame database. After this quality assurance step, lenses are laid out, blocked and put on the Flex Link track to resume automation.
-
Lens EdgingOur MEI641 Auto operates using a five-axis digital milling unit. The MEI compliments our state-of-the-art surfacing department by precisely edging lens shapes ranging from a standard metal frame to complex sport wraps, high-fashion frames, and custom shapes. The world class technology the MEI provides allows us to create step backs and inclined bevels to make even the most challenging prescriptions aesthetically pleasing. K Optical also utilizes the MEI to produce Chemistrie magnetic clips.
-
Custom EdgingOur MEI641 Auto edger gives us the capability to offer an expanded prescription range for lenses going into Sport/Wrap frames, such as Oakley, Wiley-X, Rudy Project, Maui Jim, and others. The MEI641 Auto utilizes a CAD software program called Technocam that allows us to program every cut that goes into edging a lens to produce custom lens shapes and styles.
-
AssemblyEdged lenses are digitally measured for c-size, which is stored in our network for future reference, and then deblocked. Lenses are carefully checked for sharp edges and hand-edged if necessary. Once the lenses are thoroughly checked and cleaned, they are inserted into the frame to complete the job.
-
Final InspectionAll jobs must pass a final ANSI standards check that includes frame fit, powers, prism, and defects before going to the shipping department. The RX order is double checked, and lenses are inspected for defects before being shipped.
